A man started walking alongside me in the street this afternoon. I, returning from a meander around the sky-scrapers, he, evidently roaming from person to person with a standard speil.

or so I thought.

The signifiers were classic. He was obviously homeless. Obviously approaching people uninvited, and quite possibly soliciting. And I had pre-determined to appologise bruskly and carry on in my own ponderings. But he was relentless.

Responding to my plea not to be disturbed he launched on the typical tirade of how far from every day normality his life was - his struggles, his tribulations. What was I supposed to tell him? That I had the solution to all his problems? Unlikely, so I just apologised and walked on. He walked with me.
